Heavy rains, winds pound Northern Valley area, but no twister

Cresskill — A sever thunderstorm blew through the Northern Valley region this evening starting at about 5:15.

Flash flooding hits the Merritt Memorial Circle in Cresskill.

Early reports indicated that the storm has only caused minor damage in Harrington Park and Demarest.

In Harrington Park Orange and Rockland Utilities confirmed that a powerline was knocked down from the high winds, but could not confirm if anyone had lost power as a result.

Demarest Police reported that a tree was knocked down at 26 Central Ave. Police responded to the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Weather.com issued a tornado warning for the Cresskill area for 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. today.

As of 5:45 p.m., more storm clouds could be seen coming up from Teaneck heading towards Cresskill and thunder was still heard off in the distance with flashes of lightening.
